Research funding to support wildlife management
Research funding from the Wildlife Management Fund is used to develop science-based knowledge to support sustainable management of wildlife.
Swedish wildlife management should use the best available knowledge as a base for decisions. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Swedish EPA) has an important role in investigating the need for new knowledge and to disseminate research results. The Swedish EPA has a government commission to fund research on wildlife issues with grants from the Wildlife Management Fund, an important tool for the knowledge based management and a responsibility the agency has held for over 50 years. The Wildlife Management Fund is built up from the governmental hunting permit fee that everyone who hunts must pay annually.
