Towards Sustainable Waste Management

Researchers in the programme study the environmental, economic, cultural, and social aspects of waste management. The work will result in advice to policymakers on strategic choices about waste management and its related areas.

The focus of the research is on improved waste prevention and recycling. Researchers are provided with an overview of existing and potential control measures which can contribute to more sustainable waste management.

Sustainable waste management cooperates in a multidisciplinary network of researchers in Sweden within the areas economic science, etymology, environmental psychology, systems analysis and future studies.

The programme will contribute to achieving the environmental quality objectives of A Non-Toxic Environment, A Good Built Environment and Reduced Climate Impact. The Swedish EPA has allocated SEK 16 million to the programme for 2006–2012.
