Low-Carbon Energy and Transport Systems for 2050

The LETS 2050 research programme assumes that it is both technically possible and economically feasible to switch to a low-carbon society and will now examine what has to be done to achieve these objectives.

THE EPA in conjunction with the Swedish Transport Administration, the Energy Agency and VINNOVA are jointly investing SEK 36.9 million for the research in LETS 2050 during 2009–2012.

The Low-Carbon Energy and Transport Systems for 2050 programme is implemented by a team of researchers at Lund University and includes the following six areas:

  • Studies of future scenarios and models
  • Economic and political instruments
  • Urban and regional planning and infrastructure
  • Market and industry for the production of bioenergy
  • Voluntary instruments at the consumer level
  • Logistics and freight transportation
