Aerial photography is now carried out with digital cameras. Airborne laser scanning is another, relatively new technology. Both of these techniques are combined in the programme in order to develop new methods for mapping and monitoring changes in vegetation on land and in shallow sea beds.
The programme has two areas of specialization: One for applications on land which is led by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, SLU, the Remote Sensing Department, and an aquatic orientation led by the Swedish Defence Research Agency, FOI.
The Swedish EPA contributes SEK 12 million over four years, 2009–2012.
