The Adaptive Management of Fish and Wildlife Populations research programme will develop sustainable models for fish and wildlife management that are compatible with Sweden’s environmental quality objectives and with the public interest in fishing and hunting.
The research team is made up of wildlife and fish biologists, modellers, political scientists and economists. They will develop new theories and tools for the different steps in the adaptive management process, testing ideas and procedures by conducting field trials in dialogue with end-user groups such as hunters and fishers. It is an objective of the programme to establish a closer connection between decision and implementation in the interests of the wise and sustainable exploitation of fish and wildlife.
The programme will contribute to the environmental quality objectives of Sustainable Forests and Flourishing Lakes and Streams.
The Swedish EPA has allocated SEK 40 million for this programme, which ran from 2004 to 2009.
