The quality of data is better the fewer intermediaries that are involved. SMP provides tools for facility operators to enter their data in the system. Nobody else can edit the information, thus ensuring that the information used by supervisory agencies and by the Swedish EPA is exactly what was entered by the operators themselves.
Other features designed to ensure simple, reliable data entry:
- variables adapted to the actual line of business are displayed
- input data are checked as far as possible at the time of entry
- the previous year’s values are displayed in the data entry form
- the user is alerted if an entered value diverges widely from the previous year's report
- when the user creates a new report, data from any earlier report in the same year is copied over automatically
- current information about the facility is extracted from the supervisory agency’s register
