Foreign hunters that come to Sweden to hunt must pay the permit fee to get a hunting license. There are special rules for bringing hunting weapons to Sweden and the need for hunting exam.

Hunting on the increase
There are roughly 264 000 hunters in Sweden. Most hunters are men, but more and more women are taking up hunting. Some 14 600 women were granted a hunting permit in 2009/2010.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has created a website where you can register and pay your hunting license.
Permit fee
Foreign hunters must pay the permit fee. Swedish hunting permits are valid from 1 July to 30 June and must be renewed every year. The permit must be carried when hunting and must be produced on demand, eg, if requested by the police. The fee is SEK 300.
• Payment by cheque is not accepted.
• Please pay well in advance. At least two weeks before your hunting occasion.

If you log in at a later date you can see if your payment has been made, register for wolf and lynx hunts or change your telephone number/e-mail address. If you have a Swedish personal identity number your address will be updated automatically via the Swedish national registration database.

- Print out the payment confirmation and have it with you when hunting.
If you pay other way (Postal Office/Bank etc)
Save the receipt and carry it with you when hunting.
Conditions for hunting
The Government decides the dates of the hunting season for various game species. Schedules 1-4 of the Hunting Ordinance give the dates applying in various counties. You can also find the dates on the Swedish Association for Hunting and Wildlife Management website. The association has been delegated responsibility for providing information about certain hunting issues.
