There is also an Ordinance on Water Quality Management (SFS 2004:660) that, in the long term, will give rise to environmental quality standards. Since 1 July 2011 it is the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management that is in charge of related matters.
The Environmental Protection Agency draws up regulations and other guidance on how the water authorities should go about adopting environmental quality standards relating to water, and on the municipalities’ and county administrative boards’ inspection and remedial measures regarding environmental quality standards for ambient air and for fish and bivalve waters.
