Swedish greenhouse gas emissions per head of population are among the lowest in the member states of the OECD. The emissions have shown a declining trend in recent years, while economic growth has increased.
There has been a close link between economic growth and greenhouse gas emissions throughout the period of industrialisation. But Sweden is now one of the countries that can show that this link can be broken.
In 2010, Sweden emitted 66,2 million tonnes of greenhouse gases. Emissions were 9 per cent below 1990 levels.

Every year, Sweden submits its national greenhouse gas inventory to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Also, around every five years Sweden submits a national communication to the UNFCCC.
