Visiting Stenshuvud: Stenshuvud is near Kivik in south-east Skåne. The main entrance can be reached by car from S. Mellby. The northern entrance is at Hällevik. A visitor centre at the main entrance informs about the area´s human and natural history. Trails lead through the park and to the summit of Stenshuvud.
The distinctive mountain of Stenshuvud has been a landmark for seafarers for generations. The top of the mountain is also an excellent viewpoint. Stenshuvud used to be regarded as the home of giants and trolls.
The national park is dominated by deciduous forest of an exotic nature. The forest mainly consists of hornbeam and beech. The beech forest is particularly worth seeing in the spring, with its delicate foliage and carpets of flowers such as wood anemones and yellow anemones.
There are several historical finds here, such as the remains of Skåne's only ancient fort round the mountain. It dates back to the 5th - 6th centuries.
A warm climate and varied conditions contribute to a rich variation in plant species. It also favours animal life, with for example large numbers of nightingale. The song of the nightingale is sometimes stunningly intense.
The foremost sights of Stenshuvud are the lovely stretch of coast, the viewpoints, the beautiful forest and the open heaths and the very rich animal and plant life. There is a visitor's centre, Stenshuvuds Naturum, in the park, with exhibitions.
